In April, a new ‘pop up’ restaurant built entirely from recycled materials was officially opened in Amersfoort, Central Holland.
The DLC Restaurant is the latest addition to the Wagenwerkplaats, a regeneration area on the site of a former railway wagon repair workshop, which since 2007 has been designated as a national monument of industrial significance.
The location provides the perfect backdrop for DLC’s unique recycled ‘kitchen garden’ venue where business, culture and social responsibility come together.
DLC stands for Daily Local Cooking. The DLC chefs serve freshly-prepared meals made with ingredients principally sourced from local farmers and suppliers, as well as the restaurant’s own greenhouse and gardens. The menu is carefully designed to give consideration to nature, the environment and animal welfare.
But goodness is not just to be found on the menu. The DLC Restaurant collaborates with local organisations and volunteers to provide work experience opportunities for people with learning difficulties.
The restaurant’s vegetable garden and greenhouse are tended by local members of the Amerpoort organisation, and construction of the unique recycled restaurant was undertaken with the help of clients from Stichting Bikkel (the Bikkel Foundation).
Working with Janine van den Hengel of DLC Interiors, the ‘Bikkels’ have helped create a refined and tranquil design theme that runs from the restaurant through to the greenhouse café and kitchen garden. The stylish interior is filled with carefully considered details that provide a visual feast for the eyes.
The charming up-cycled restaurant makes a unique and appealing venue for casual dining, and can also be hired for special events such as weddings and business events. There is also an atmospheric greenhouse cafe and veranda for visitors to enjoy.
As the ‘pop-up’ name suggests, the current site is temporary and the restaurant will probably be relocated within the Wagenwerkplaats in the next 2-3 years . Find out more about the DLC Restaurant via the links below.
